Biography
Zenobius of Sidon (died c. 310 in Antioch, Syria) was a physician and presbyter in Sidon, Phoenicia (modern-day Lebanon), a Christian martyr, and a saint of the Catholic Church. He was one of the Phoenician martyrs. Information about Zenobius was provided by the church historian Eusebius of Caesarea, according to whom Zenobius suffered martyrdom alongside Tyrannion, Bishop of Tyre; Silvanus, a bishop from the vicinity of Emesa; and Peleus and Nilus, Egyptian bishops, because, as Eusebius writes, "the Christians glorified the Word of God." The liturgical memorial of Saint Zenobius in the Catholic Church is celebrated on February 20, following Saint Ado. The Church in Lebanon commemorates the saint on October 29. Zenobius of Sidon should not be confused with Saint Zenobius, Bishop of Aegea (modern-day Yumurtalık in the Turkish province of Adana), a martyr commemorated on October 29 or 30 together with his sister, Saint Zenobia.
