
Biography
James Buuzaabaylawo (born 1857, died June 3, 1886, in Namugongo) was a Christian martyr, a saint of the Catholic Church, and one of the Martyrs of Uganda murdered by King Mwanga II. Influenced by the teachings of missionaries, he was baptized on November 15, 1885, receiving the name James. On June 3, 1886, he was burned at the stake along with Charles Lwanga and other companions. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XV on June 6, 1920. On October 18, 1964, Pope Paul VI canonized him and the other Martyrs of Uganda, including Charles Lwanga.
