Biography
Winthir (born in England; died in Neuhausen) was presumably an itinerant preacher who Christianized the Upper Bavarian region between the Würm and the Isar rivers in the 8th or 12th century. In the west of Munich, a church, a cemetery, a school, a street, and various other locations and businesses are named after him. Due to long-standing tradition, he is venerated as a regional blessed in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising; at times, his name was a common given name in the area where his cult was practiced.
