Saint Valerius of Antibes

Biography
Valerius of Antibes (Gaul, 5th century – Antibes, 473) was the second bishop of Antibes. He is venerated as a saint by various Christian denominations, particularly in the dioceses of Nice and Fréjus. He died a martyr at the hands of the Arian Visigoths. Nothing else is known for certain, and most of the deeds attributed to him are legendary. The ancient sources that would have mentioned him disappeared during the invasions of the 8th and 9th centuries. He should not be confused with another contemporary bishop, Valerius of Nice, who was a monk of Lérins. His name was given in 1182 to a village near Grasse, Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey.
