Biography

Saints Theodore and Theophanes the Branded (Greek: Θεόδωρος καὶ Θεοφανής τῷ Γραπτώ; second half of the 8th century – Theodore d. c. 840, Theophanes d. c. 850) were saints of the Orthodox Church, Byzantine monks, brothers, confessors, and philosophers who suffered at the hands of the iconoclasts. Theophanes died as the Bishop of Nicaea. In the Orthodox Church, they are canonized as venerable saints.
