Saint Tatian of Aquileia
Biography
Hilary, sometimes also spelled Ilaro, Ellero, Ellaro, or Elaro (died Aquileia, March 16, 284), and Tatian (died Aquileia, March 16, 284) were the second bishop of Aquileia and his deacon, respectively, who were martyred together during the reign of Emperor Numerian. They are venerated as saints by the Catholic Church, particularly in the areas of the ancient metropolitanate of the Patriarchate of Aquileia. Likely beginning in the 4th century, the relics of the two martyrs were housed in an octagonal martyrium within the city of Aquileia. In 568, upon the arrival of the Lombards under King Alboin, Patriarch Paulinus I fled to Grado with the Church treasury and the relics of the Aquileian martyrs, including those of Hilary and Tatian.
