Saint Sven av Arboga

Feast day: September 24

Biography

Sven of Arboga (Swedish: Sven av Arboga) is a saint of the Catholic Church. No verifiable information about the figure of Sven of Arboga has been preserved. Contemporary knowledge of the saint's cult is based on accounts derived from late legends and tradition. He is said to have been a monk living near the town of Arboga who fell victim to stoning by brigands. According to accounts, the transfer of the deceased's remains from a chapel built at the site of his martyrdom to the town was accompanied by a solemn procession. After 1600, when the chapel was repurposed, the memory of Sven of Arboga began to fade. It is probable that the saint's relics were among those discovered during excavations conducted in 1892. In Sweden, he is commemorated on September 24.
