Biography

Saint Sophia of Sicily (Byzantium, 192 or 193 – Pantalica, September 18, 221) was a Christian martyr and the patron saint of Sortino, in the Free Municipal Consortium of Syracuse, Sicily. Her liturgical memorial is celebrated on September 10. The statue depicting her is kept inside the church dedicated to her, located in the historic center of Sortino. A precious arm-shaped reliquary, which contains a bone fragment attributed to the saint, is also venerated in the same church.
