Saint Santa Kennera

Feast day: October 28

Biography

Saint Kennera, or Cennera, was, according to tradition, a Scottish religious woman who lived around the 6th century. She was reportedly educated alongside Saint Ursula and Saint Regulus of Patras, later becoming a nun and living as a recluse in Kirkinner, Wigtownshire (Galloway, Scotland). The place where she lived takes its name from her and is today called Kirkinner ("Church of Kennera," formerly Kirk Cennera). In reality, Kennera's origins are likely different, and she is one of many examples of saints from continental Europe who were imported to Scotland at a later date; her story is, in all probability, based on that of Saint Cunera.
