Saint Sainte Menne

380 · Early Church

Feast day: October 3

Biography

Menne, or Manne, is a Christian hermit saint honored in Lorraine. She is among the earliest known Christians of the Diocese of Toul, then in Belgica Prima. She is said to have been born in Solimariaca (Saint-Élophe) and to have died on October 3, circa 380, at a place called Fontenet (in Puzieux, Vosges). A chapel dedicated to her is located there, housing a portion of her relics. It stands above a valley where Saint Menne miraculously transformed muddy waters into a clear spring using her staff. This water was recommended for the infirm and for treating fevers. An annual procession, held on the eve of Ascension, traveled there from the Abbey of Poussay near Mirecourt, which also possessed some of her relics.
