Saint Saint Theoticus
Feast day: March 8
Biography
Theoticus was an Egyptian martyr, a subordinate of Saint Arian, the governor of the Thebaid, who converted to Christianity. He is honored as a Christian martyr and a Catholic saint. Theoticus, Arian, and three other companions whose names are unknown witnessed the beheading of the deacon Apollonius and Philemon in Alexandria. For refusing to renounce their faith, they were cast into the sea. Their bodies, which reportedly washed ashore with the help of dolphins, were buried in Antinoe. Their graves were visited in the late 4th century by monks described in the Historia monachorum. The liturgical memorial of Saint Theoticus and his companions is celebrated in the Catholic Church on March 8, according to the Roman Martyrology. Saint Simeon Metaphrastes dedicated a memorial to Saint Theoticus on December 14.
