Saint Quotidianus of Cappadocia

Biography

Quotidi of Cappadocia is said to have been a Christian saint and martyr who, according to legend, was martyred alongside other companions from the same region, one of whom may have been named Eugenius, at an uncertain location in Cappadocia on an unknown date. In 1631, they were mentioned by Cesare Baronio in his work Martyrologium Romanum, which collects the traditions of several ancient martyrologies. He notes only that Quotidi or Cotidi was a deacon and that he was martyred on September 6 together with a certain Eugenius and other companions. According to the Acta Sanctorum of the Bollandists in 1748, there were several variants of the account, such as the birthplace of Quotidi being Reaten or Teriaten—both cities non-existent in Cappadocia—as well as the existence of his companion Eugenius or the claim that the latter was a bishop, perhaps due to confusion with Eugenius of Carthage.
