Saint Publia of Antioch
Feast day: October 9
Biography
Publia of Antioch was a 4th-century Christian woman from Antioch, in modern-day Turkey, who, after being married and having one child, joined a monastery following her husband's death and became its abbess. She is famous for leading her fellow sisters in opposing Emperor Julian the Apostate, for which she was beaten and humiliated by him. When the emperor passed by them, they sang verses from the Psalms: "The idols of the nations are silver and gold," and "May those who make them become like them." She has been venerated as a saint by Catholics and Orthodox Christians since ancient times. Her feast day is celebrated on October 9.
