Saint Protadio de Besançon

Feast day: February 10

Biography

Saint Prothade, or Protade, known in Latin as Protadius Vesuntinus, was a Frankish prelate who died in 624. He was a relative of a Mayor of the Palace of Burgundy. Around 612, he succeeded Nicet as Bishop of Besançon, distinguishing himself by his zeal in maintaining the integrity of dogma and discipline. He acquired a great reputation for prudence and wisdom, which led to him being frequently consulted by King Clotaire II. The Church honors him on February 10.
