Biography
Blessed Podiven (Podivín) was, according to the Saint Wenceslaus legends, a servant and the closest associate of Saint Wenceslaus. He was said to be the only assistant who helped Wenceslaus in his most pious deeds, accompanying him on pilgrimages, baking hosts, and preparing sacramental wine. Podiven accompanied his master to a feast in Stará Boleslav; he managed to escape but was overtaken and hanged. After his death, his body remained hanging intact, and over time, Podiven gained a reputation for blessedness. According to legend, he was buried outside the church where the body of Saint Wenceslaus rested. Such a body was later discovered and is now kept in the Cathedral of Saints Vitus, Wenceslaus, and Adalbert.
