Biography

Blessed Peter Berno, born around 1552 in Ascona, in the canton of Ticino (Switzerland), and died (assassinated) on July 25, 1583, in Cuncolim (Goa), was a Swiss Jesuit priest and missionary in India. Along with others, he was murdered during an anti-Portuguese popular revolt in Cuncolim. Considered a martyr of the faith by the Catholic Church, he is liturgically commemorated, with the other Martyrs of Salcete, on November 4.
