Biography

Peter of the Horde, also known as Peter of Rostov (born Dair Kaidagul, son of Orda-Ichin, or Peter of the Horde, descendant of Genghis Khan; died 1290, Rostov), was a prince of the Golden Horde and a nephew of Khan Berke. He moved to Rus', converted to the Orthodox faith, and was glorified by the Russian Church as a saint and venerable monk. He was the sworn brother of Prince Boris Vasilkovich of Rostov. He was the founder of the Peter Monastery in Rostov and the progenitor of the Chirikov noble family. He is canonized as a venerable saint. His feast days are June 30 (July 13) and the Synaxis of Rostov-Yaroslavl Saints.
