Biography
Saint Paulinus of Wales is a Welsh saint venerated in Carmarthenshire. Paulinus lived as a hermit and teacher in a place identified as Whitland (or Hendy-gwyn ar Daf), Carmarthenshire, in southwest Wales. There, he was the tutor of Saint David and Saint Teilo. He founded churches and chapels around Llandovery. He attended the Synod of Llanddewi Brefi in 545, where he nominated David to speak. A 6th-century stone inscription found near Caeo in Carmarthenshire, now in the Carmarthenshire Museum, honors him as a preserver of the faith, a constant lover of his country, and a champion of justice. His feast day is celebrated on November 23. G.H. Doble suggests he may be the same person as Paul Aurelian.
