Biography
Paisius of Uglich (died 1504 in Uglich) was an Orthodox Christian monk and saint. His uncle was the later Orthodox saint Macarius of Kalyazin. After losing his parents at the age of 11, he went to the monastery led by his uncle, where he was tonsured as a monk and became his spiritual disciple. He led an ascetic life, fasting frequently and transcribing theological texts. In 1476, he founded the Intercession Monastery near Uglich, becoming its first hegumen. He lived in this monastery until 1504. Among his spiritual disciples were the later saints Bassian of Uglich and Adrian of Uglich. He was buried in the Intercession Monastery, where his relics remain an object of veneration.
