Nikon of the Caves (Nikon the Great; died March 23, 1088) was an 11th-century Old Rus' church figure, hegumen of the Kiev Pechersk Monastery from 1078 to 1088, founder of the Church and Monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos in Tmutarakan, a scholar and chronicler, and an Orthodox saint. His feast days in the Orthodox Church are March 23 (April 5), September 22 (October 5) as part of the Synaxis of Tula Saints, and September 28 (October 11) as part of the Synaxis of the Venerable Fathers of the Kiev Pechersk Monastery, whose relics rest in the Near Caves (of Saint Anthony).
