Saint Narcissus of Girona

Saint Narcissus of Girona

300–307 · Early Church

Feast day: October 29

Biography

Narcissus of Girona was a 3rd-century bishop, either Spanish and native to Girona (according to the Flos Sanctorum) or a Scythian from the Gothia of southern Sweden—Västergötland or Östergötland—(according to the Cronicón de Liberato). Depending on the source, he became a preacher and, accompanied by his deacon Felix, visited the Alps, notably the Grisons in Switzerland, and then Germany. He settled in Augsburg, where he converted the prostitute Afra and other women of the same profession. Finally, he left for Girona, or returned to his native city, where he was martyred alongside his deacon at the current site of the Church of Saint Felix. The date of their execution is linked to that of Saint Narcissus of Jerusalem, falling on October 29, his feast day.
