Saint Mirope of Chios

201–300 · Early Church

Feast day: July 13

Biography

Mirope of Chios (Ephesus, 3rd century – Chios, 3rd century) was a young Christian who, during the persecutions of Decius, moved to the island of Chios with her mother (her father was deceased). When the island's governor had Isidore of Chios killed in 251, Mirope, together with Saint Ammon, collected his remains and buried them, likely in the area of Chora near Chios, where Saint Marcian had a church built in the 5th century, of which traces remain. Her feast day is celebrated on July 13 by the Catholic Church and on December 2 by the Orthodox Church.
