Biography

Maur or Maurus was a Roman child martyr of the 3rd century. According to tradition, in the year 283, he was martyred alongside his father Claudius, a tribune of ancient Rome who had converted to Christianity, his mother Hilaria, and his brother Jason. They all converted, along with other Roman soldiers, upon learning of the martyrdom of Chrysanthus and Daria. Impressed, they wished to convert to the faith that the latter professed. The prefect Numerian, upon realizing what was happening, killed Claudius by tying a stone around his neck and throwing him into the Tiber. The rest of the converts were taken to the Roman forum and beheaded.
