Biography

Martyrius of the Kiev Caves (late 13th – early 14th century) was a monk of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. Due to his great purity of soul and strict fasting, he was ordained a deacon and possessed the gift of performing miracles. According to tradition, those for whom he prayed to God while standing on the ambo were shown mercy by the Lord, and everyone received what the venerable monk requested, whether it was health or the fulfillment of another desire; Saint Martyrius was feared by demons, whom he cast out of people through prayer.
