Saint Mars de Nantes

Feast day: July 5

Biography

Mars of Nantes (6th century) is a hypothetical bishop of Nantes, presented as a disciple of Saint Melaine, who allegedly exercised his ministry between 537 and 541 before renouncing his office to become a hermit. His name was therefore not included in the episcopal registers. The only bishop of Nantes bearing the name Martius lived in the 4th century. He is celebrated on July 5.
