Biography

Manuel Gutiérrez Martín, OMI (born January 1, 1913, in Fresno del Río; died July 24, 1936, in Pozuelo, Madrid), was a Spanish Oblate of the Immaculate Mary. He was a theology student at the Oblate house of studies in Pozuelo, Madrid, and had already received the subdiaconate. On July 22, 1936, amidst the religious persecution in Spain, he was captured along with his confreres at their monastery. On July 24, 1936, he was executed alongside six other Oblates. The beatification of the 22 Spanish martyrs of the Oblates, including Manuel Gutiérrez Martín, took place on December 17, 2011, at the Cathedral of Madrid.
