Saint Love of Rome

Biography

According to hagiography, Saint Charity is a 2nd-century Christian child martyr known as Agape in Greek, Caritas in Latin, and Lyubov in Russian. She was the daughter of Saint Sophia and the sister of Faith (Pistis), the eldest, and Hope (Elpis), named after the three theological virtues. All three were executed by order of Emperor Hadrian. Formerly celebrated on August 1 with her sisters, following their inclusion in the Roman Martyrology, they have been removed from the official liturgical calendar, but their veneration is still practiced, particularly in Eastern Europe and Russia.
