Saint Livier de Marsal
Feast day: July 17
Biography
Livier or Livaire, born in Metz at the beginning of the 5th century, was martyred at Marsal (Moselle) for his stubborn defense of the city of Metz and his compatriots during the Hunnic invasion. However, the 10th-century Petit cartulaire de Saint-Arnould dates the martyrdom of Saint Livier to 329, during different hostilities. In 451, the Huns were traveling from Metz to Orléans, not toward Marsal, which lies on the road to Strasbourg.
