Biography

Laurentius Loricatus (died 1243) was a soldier who later became a Benedictine. The nickname Loricatus (armored) is derived from the penitential shirt made of chains that Laurentius wore. Laurentius Loricatus is the patron saint of the Diocese of Bovino, confirmed in the town of Bovino in the Italian region of Apulia. As a soldier, Laurentius Loricatus had accidentally killed someone. In penance, he prepared for a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. After his return, he lived as a hermit in a cave in Subiaco. He is venerated as a blessed. His feast day is August 16.
