Biography

Saint Joseph Túc (Vietnamese: Giuse Túc) (born c. 1843 in Hoàng Xá, Bắc Ninh Province, Vietnam – died June 1, 1862, in the same place) was a martyr and a saint of the Catholic Church. There is some controversy regarding the year of Joseph Túc's birth. His parents were Joseph Cẩn and Trí. Joseph Túc lived in poverty. During the persecution of Christians in Vietnam, he was arrested in early 1862. He was held in several prisons. Refusing to renounce his faith, he was beheaded on June 1, 1862. He was buried at the site of his execution. Later, his relics were moved to the church in the Ngọc Đồng parish. His feast day is November 24, as part of the group of the 117 Vietnamese Martyrs. He was beatified by Pope Pius XII on April 29, 1951, and canonized by Pope John Paul II on June 19, 1988, as one of the 117 Vietnamese Martyrs.
