Biography
José Agustín Fariña Castro, O.S.A. (born Alfredo Fernando; Valladolid, March 20, 1879 – Paracuellos de Jarama, November 30, 1936), was a Spanish Augustinian friar, writer, editor, preacher, and martyr. He is venerated as a blessed by the Catholic Church following his beatification in 2007 alongside 497 other martyrs who were victims of religious persecution during the Spanish Civil War. He is strongly linked to Chile, a country where he lived for twenty-one years and to whose Augustinian province he remained affiliated until the date of his death.
