Biography
Saint George of Lodève was a bishop originally from Rouergue, in the vicinity of Rodez. He was first a monk at the Abbey of Sainte-Foy de Conques. He experienced the Norman invasion, which destroyed the monastery. Invited by the Count of Toulouse, he then founded the Abbey of Vabres, which he governed well. He later became Bishop of Lodève in 880. He received gifts from the King of France, Charles the Bald, notably the toll of Lodève and the property of the site of Salelles. He appears to have died around 884.
