Saint Hardward von Minden

Hardward (died September 16, 853, in Minden) was the second Bishop of Minden, serving from 813 to 853. The name Hardward is of Old High German origin and means "the strong guardian." In his work, he was supported by the deacon Meimelph, who is venerated as a saint; his feast day is November 1. Bishop Hardward, like Deacon Meimelph, is venerated as a saint. The bishop's feast day is April 13.
