Saint Giuseppe Maria Gambaro

Joseph Marie Gambaro, born Giuseppe Maria Gambaro, was an Italian Reformed Franciscan Catholic priest and missionary in China. He was born on August 7, 1869, in Galliate, a town in the province of Novara in Piedmont, Italy, and died on July 7, 1900, in Hengshawan in the Hunan province of China. Recognized as a martyr for the faith, he was proclaimed a saint by Pope John Paul II during the canonization ceremony of the Martyrs of China on October 1, 2000, in Saint Peter's Square in Rome. His feast day is July 7.
