Biography

Galla of Baginum (Latin: Galla) (6th century) was a consecrated virgin in Valence-sur-Rhône in the presence of seven bishops. Born into a wealthy family, her father had selected several enviable suitors for her. She asked him to let her make her own choice, to which he agreed. She then told him that she wished to marry Jesus Christ rather than any of those suitors. Her father consented. She returned to live in Baginum, near Nyons, where she spent her life visiting and caring for the sick with tireless devotion. This locality now bears her name, Sainte-Jalle (Drôme). Her feast days are February 1 and November 6.
