Saint Florence of Comblé

Saint Florence of Comblé

338–367 · Early Church

Feast day: December 1

Biography

Florence of Comblé was a young Phrygian woman who followed Saint Hilary (303–367) upon his return from the exile ordered by the emperor. He consecrated her to God and offered her the opportunity to retire to Comblé, a village east of Celle-l'Évescault that was one of his many properties. She lived there until the age of 29 in prayer and mortification. She is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church. Comblé is today the site of a Christian pilgrimage in honor of Saint Florence.
