Biography
Flavian (died late 5th century, Autun) was Bishop of Autun in the late 5th century and is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church. Almost nothing is known about this saint, who is mentioned in the Martyrologium Hieronymianum under the date of August 23: Agustiduno Flaviani episcopi. He is identified with the Bishop of Autun, Flavichonus, mentioned in the life of Saint Heptadius during the time of King Clovis I (481–511). In the episcopal lists of Autun, Flavian's episcopate is placed between those of Euphronius, historically attested for the last time in 475, and Pragmatius, documented in 517. The current Roman Martyrology, reformed according to the decrees of the Second Vatican Council, commemorates the saintly bishop on August 23 with these words:
