Biography

Fernando Garcia Sendra (born March 3, 1905, in Pego; died September 18, 1936) was a blessed of the Catholic Church. He served as an altar boy before entering the Franciscan College. After three years in Benissa, he returned home due to illness. He subsequently entered the San Jose College in Valencia and was ordained a priest in 1931. One evening in September, during the Spanish Civil War, he was arrested and taken to prison. On September 18, 1936, he was transported by truck and shot; hours later, as he approached a nearby house, militants killed him. He was 31 years old. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on March 11, 2001, as part of the group of José Aparicio Sanz and 232 companions.
