Saint Fèlix "in Pincis"
303 · Early Church
Biography
Felix in Pincis is a legendary figure, venerated as a saint, who does not correspond to any real person. His legend originated to explain the existence of a chapel dedicated to Saint Felix of Nola on the Pincian Hill in Rome; hence the name Felix in Pincis (on the Pincian). As the legend developed and the memory of the chapel, which eventually disappeared, was lost, a story was created to explain the name. The new Felix came to be regarded as a distinct saint in a process of hagiographic duplication. Nevertheless, his feast day remained the same as that of the original saint, January 14, and his history appears in the Golden Legend linked to that of the saint of Nola.
