Biography

Eusebius of Bologna (died 400) was the Bishop of Bologna in the 4th century. He is venerated as a saint by various Christian denominations. Honored in the Catholic and Orthodox churches, his feast day is celebrated on September 26. He was elected Bishop of Bologna in 370, following the death of John I. He founded the monasteries of Saint Proculus and of Saints Vitalis and Agricola, whose relics he rediscovered around 392. He attended the Council of Aquileia, which opened on September 3, 381, where he spoke nineteen times. Together with Ambrose of Milan, who was his friend, and others, he defended Catholic orthodoxy against Arianism. Upon his death in 400, he was succeeded in the bishopric by Felix of Milan.
