Biography

Eulogius of Tarragona, or Saint Eulogius (died January 21, 259), was a Hispano-Roman Christian cleric. While serving as a deacon, he was martyred alongside Bishop Fructuosus and the fellow deacon Augurius. He was burned alive in the amphitheater of Tarraco during the persecution decreed by the Roman emperors Valerian and Gallienus. They were possibly the first martyrs for whom there is documentary evidence in the history of Christianity in Spain. In 2008–2009, on the occasion of the 1750th anniversary, Pope Benedict XVI declared a jubilee year for the Archdiocese of Tarragona.
