Biography

Erchanbert, sometimes also referred to as Hercumbert, Ercambert, or Ercanbert (died January 11, 854), was an abbot, teacher, grammarian, and Bishop of Freising from January 29, 835, until his death. His predecessor was Hitto, who served as bishop from 811 until his death on December 11, 834; Erchanbert was succeeded by Anno, who served from March 1, 854, until his death on October 9, 875. As Bishop of Freising, Erchanbert authored a letter against the imposture of relics.
