Saint Emiliana of Rome
Feast day: December 24
Biography
Saint Emiliana was a virgin and the aunt of Pope Gregory I the Great. She lived a monastic life with her sisters, Tarsilla and Gordiana. Shortly before her death, it is said that God appeared to her, saying, "I spent Christmas without you, but we shall meet on the feast of the Epiphany." Emiliana died in Rome around 550, just before the feast of the Epiphany. It is said that her body was interred by Gregory I in the Church of Saint Andrew (now the Church of Saint Gregory the Great) in Rome. The liturgical memorial of Saint Emiliana is celebrated in the Catholic Church on January 5.
