Saint Emeterius of Calahorra, also sometimes called Madir (died March 3, between 298 and 304), was a Roman soldier beheaded for professing Christianity. He is a martyr of the Catholic Church and, along with Saint Celedonius, the patron saint of the city of Santander and its diocese (Cantabria), as well as the city of Calahorra (in Latin, Calagurris) in northern Spain (La Rioja), where he died. His name is the origin of the name of the city of Santander (Sant'Emter).
