Biography
Saint Demetrius of Kiev (Matrona Yegorova, 1810–1878) was the founder of the Presentation Monastery in Kiev. She was of Bulgarian origin, born in Silistra, and married a Russian officer named Yegorov. During the Siege of Sevastopol, where her husband died, she cared for the wounded. She became the abbess of the monastery she founded under the name Demetrius. She is canonized by the Orthodox Church.
