Biography

Damien Nam Myong-hyog (Korean: 남명혁 다미아노) was a Korean Christian layman and catechist, born in 1802 in Munan near Seoul, Korea, and died on May 24, 1839, in Seoul. Recognized as a martyr and beatified in 1925 by Pius XI, he was solemnly canonized in Seoul by Pope John Paul II on May 6, 1984, along with 102 other martyrs of Korea. Saint Damien Nam Myong-hyog is commemorated on May 24 and September 20.
