Biography

Cristòfol Baqués i Almirall (Olesa de Bonesvalls, Alt Penedès, March 20, 1885, or 1884 – Barcelona, August 20, 1936) was a priest, blessed, and member of the Brotherhood of Diocesan Laborer Priests. He was ordained a priest on June 13, 1908. That same year he joined the Brotherhood, and on September 24, 1910, he consecrated himself to the Brotherhood of Diocesan Laborer Priests. His first assignment was as Prefect of Students at the Pontifical Seminary of Tarragona. During his time in Tarragona, he earned a licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of Tarragona in 1909. Between 1928 and 1931, he was a professor of Latin and Vice-Rector of the Minor Seminary of Baeza (Jaén). In 1931, he was transferred to the Conciliar Seminary of Barcelona, where he served as steward and eventually as Prefect of Students. He was executed by firing squad on August 20, 1936, on the Rabassada road in Barcelona. He was beatified on October 13, 2013.
