Biography

The Martyrs of Nagasaki were 26 Franciscan and Jesuit missionaries as well as Japanese converts to Christianity, aged between 12 and 64, who were executed in 1597 by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. They are venerated as martyrs and saints in the Catholic and Anglican churches. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America also commemorates them.
