Saint Barlaam di Antiochia

Saint Barlaam di Antiochia

Feast day: November 19

Biography

Barlaam is a saint and martyr of the Catholic Church. Knowledge of the cult surrounding this figure comes from the testimonies of Saint John Chrysostom and Saint Basil, while the distinction between Barlaam of Antioch and Barlaam the Hermit was demonstrated by the Bollandist Hippolyte Delehaye, SJ (1859–1941). All that is known about Barlaam is that he endured torture until his martyrdom and refused to offer sacrifices to pagan gods. Although the date of his death is unknown, his feast day is observed on November 19.
