Biography
Apolonia Lizárraga Ochoa de Zabalegui (18 April 1867 – 8 September 1936), known in religion as Mother Apolonia of the Blessed Sacrament, was a Carmelite nun and superior of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity. During the Spanish Civil War, she was dismembered alive and thrown to pigs by Republican militias in Barcelona during the Red Terror. She was declared a martyr of the faith by the Catholic Church and beatified by Benedict XVI in 2007, alongside 498 other Spaniards who also died during the conflict. Her feast day is celebrated on 6 November, together with 64 other individuals declared martyrs of the Spanish Civil War.
